As the liaison between U.S. Marines and Finnish forces, I spent countless hours coordinating operations and building relationships with our Finnish, British, and Estonian partners. Nothing beats exploring the Finnish countryside on two wheels between planning meetings! This deployment really showed me how strong our international partnerships are and gave me a deeper appreciation for our NATO allies.

Leading from the tank commander’s position of an M1A1 Abrams tank during operations in Oman. Despite the challenging desert environment, with temperatures soaring and visibility often limited by sand, we maintained combat readiness and mission focus. This position gave me a perfect vantage point to direct my crew while coordinating with other elements of our formation. There’s something uniquely empowering about commanding 70 tons of American armor through the desert terrain – it’s where leadership meets cutting-edge military technology.

During our port visit to Cartagena, Spain, one of the Mediterranean’s oldest and most strategic naval bases, I managed our team’s equipment wash-down operations while USS Gunston Hall was docked. Between coordinating the thorough cleaning of our tanks and trucks for U.S. Customs compliance, I had the opportunity to explore this historic military city. The port’s rich naval heritage dates back to the 18th century, and today it remains a vital Spanish Navy installation. This photo captures the beautiful harbor that has served navies since the Carthaginians first established it in the 2nd century BC.

During my deployment to Djibouti, I had the unique opportunity to work alongside the Djiboutian Army, sharing tactics and learning from each other’s experiences. This memorable moment captures a herd of camels passing our military vehicles, perfectly symbolizing the blend of traditional culture and modern military cooperation. The experience went beyond tactical training – it offered invaluable insights into Djiboutian customs and way of life. One highlight was trading my usual tank commander’s position for a camel ride, giving me a whole new perspective on desert mobility!

During our port visit, I had the chance to explore the stunning metropolis of Dubai. This photo captures the city’s impressive skyline along Sheikh Zayed Road, showcasing the perfect blend of modern architecture and infrastructure. The towering skyscrapers and pristine highways stand as testament to Dubai’s remarkable transformation from a desert outpost to a global hub. It was fascinating to experience this ultra-modern city during our brief stay, offering a striking contrast to our usual military environment.

During a port visit to Italy, I had the opportunity to visit the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. This 12th-century architectural wonder, famous for its unintended tilt, stands as one of Italy’s most recognizable landmarks. Like many visitors before me, I couldn’t resist getting the classic tourist photo in front of this remarkable bell tower. The tower’s enduring appeal, despite (or perhaps because of) its imperfection, makes it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Tuscany.

I snapped this photo while wandering through one of Croatia’s beautiful coastal towns. The weather was perfect – clear blue skies and that amazing Mediterranean breeze coming off the water. I spent the afternoon just taking it all in – grabbing lunch at one of the little cafes along the water, watching locals and tourists mix in the marketplace, and sampling some incredible Croatian dishes I can’t even pronounce. It was one of those perfect afternoons where you forget you’re on deployment and just get lost in the moment. The pastel buildings and crystal-clear water made it feel like I’d stepped into a postcard.

I captured this shot of an ancient fortress while our bus wound its way through the hills of Crete on our way to a local winery. The dramatic positioning of this fortress on the hilltop, with the deep blue Mediterranean Sea as its backdrop, stopped me in my tracks. It’s amazing how these centuries-old stone walls still stand guard over the modern village below, telling stories of Crete’s rich history.

Teaching at SNCO Academy Hawaii — During my time leading the SNCO Academy at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, I had the incredible opportunity to shape the next generation of Marine Corps leaders. Here I’m delivering a presentation at our Senior Enlisted Education Symposium, where we focused on developing leadership skills and preparing our senior enlisted Marines for advancement. During my tenure, I had the privilege of recruiting and mentoring over 125 outstanding young men and women who chose to lead Marines. Through partnerships with local colleges and universities, we built strong pipelines that connected ambitious students with opportunities to serve as Marine Corps Officers. Each salute like this one represented not just a personal achievement, but the culmination of months of guidance, preparation, and dedication to developing the next generation of Marine Corps leaders.

As Project Manager, I led a team of 10 personnel to coordinate this grand celebration for over 1,000 attendees. The custom ice sculpture of the 3/7 Marines “Cutting Edge” unit insignia represents just one element of the meticulous planning and attention to detail required to orchestrate this time-honored tradition, which included managing hundreds of hotel rooms, coordinating across multiple entities, and ensuring seamless execution of all event components.
